SCD ~ Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Specific Carbohydrate Diet

I have already posted about AIP – autoimmune protocol diet and it’s benefits but I also tried the Specific Carbohydrate Diet which has helped me considerably in that it explains what and why you should eat or avoid certain foods.  A great resource for anyone who suffers from any gut issues. I use the legal and illegal lists often, you can find them here. This is the most common resource given to patients newly diagnosed with IBD.

Before I purchase a book I borrow it from the library to see if it will be worth the money and help me now and in the future. I bought these two cookbooks because they are helpful in the kitchen when working through SCD.

I found that this diet didn’t get rid of my symptoms but was a definite asset in my healing process. Some foods on this list still bother me and other items I can tolerate,  I believe that everyone is different and each person should find what foods they can and can’t tolerate and go from there to develop their own personal way of eating well for ultimate health. So many of these recipes that I have tried so far are delicious and I learned a great deal from the Breaking the Vicious Cycle that I can honestly say it was a great stepping stone. Please visit the authors page here it’s absolutely amazing what one women accomplished in a life time, how many people she has helped even after her death in 2005 and how incredible her findings were after realizing what she had stumbled upon. Here’s to healing one step at a time!  Cheers!

AIP ~ Autoimmune Protocol

The Autoimmune movement is a long time coming and so many people being diagnosed with life threatening illnesses are banning together and strong pioneering women are getting the word out to show the western medical field and the struggling individuals that something has to change. That there are ways to deal with and improve lives by diet changes.  By eliminating trigger foods from your diet you can regain your health. Everyone is different and each individual should work through the AIP Diet to learn about their bodies on their own.

This movement is working towards the combined efforts of doctor and patient to work together to combat against the cause of the illness to get to the heart of the problem through diet.  The AIP diet is a great place to start for anyone who notices that eating certain foods affects them. In doing so you are feeding yourself food that your body doesn’t have to fight against when processing it. You are giving your body the nutrition it needs so that it isn’t working overtime or trying to process food you can’t tolerate instead of fighting off disease or illness.

Human body heals itself

Front page news! The human body heals itself. Why have some western doctors forgotten this? Or is it something overlooked these days? The human body heals itself!  I want every individual all around the world who suffers from Crohns and Colitis to read my blog post so that the suffering can stop. STOP medicating symptoms and START allowing the body to heal on its own.

With time and care the human body heals itself. Allowing the body that is diseased with Crohns and Colitis to heal by limiting the foods ingested to items that do not cause inflammation since that is what is occurring, is common sense; is it not? Avoiding foods that cause irritation or foods that the gut has to work hard to digest should be reintroduced once the flare is in remission.

Allow the gut to heal

To allow the gut to heal, the individual has to avoid raw vegetables including lettuce and fruits like apples, pineapple, anything that has to be digested a lot; until healed, legumes, grains; including corn, refined sugar, hard to digest meat like red meat, pork. Limit to a variety of fish and some chicken. Drink a lot of bone broth made from meats that have not been given antibiotics or hormones and that have been grass fed. Being kind to your body by allow the gut to rest, so that it is not having to digest every day will give the gut a chance to heal, to recover and to get back on track with beneficial flora and bacteria it needs to function properly.

Prescription drugs don’t work

Once prescription drugs are used for the symptoms of Crohns and Colitis it only makes the disease worse. Antibiotics, steroids and chemotherapy are not the answers. If you look closely at the information on line it is clear that the patients taking these drugs are becoming sicker leading to surgery. Unnecessary surgery!

Natural healing

Looking at the individuals who are changing their lifestyle, opting for natural remedies and diet changes are healing on their own with NO surgery. Be kind to your body, don’t fall for the quick fix, it doesn’t help at all, it only makes things worse and it only masks symptoms. We need to heal IBD by using natural remedies to allow the body to heal on its own.

Homeopathy, biofeedback, changes in lifestyle and diet along with natural remedies saved my life and saved me from having surgery. Do the research, advocate for yourself and see how your life will change!

Peace ~ Andrea

Systemic Inflammation & Diet

Systemic Inflammation

Everybody has it in some way or another. Chronic systemic inflammation (SI) is the result of release of pro-inflammatory cytokines from immune-related cells and the chronic activation of the innate immune system. It can contribute to the development or progression of certain conditions.

Inflammation is a vital part of the body’s immune response. It is the body’s attempt to heal itself after an injury; defend itself against foreign invaders, such as viruses and bacteria; and repair damaged tissue.  Without inflammation, wounds would fester and infections could become deadly. Inflammation can also be problematic, though, and it plays a role in some chronic diseases.

Inflammation is often characterized by redness, swelling, warmth, and sometimes pain and some immobility. When you stub your toe, for example, biochemical processes release proteins called cytokines as “emergency signals” that bring in your body’s immune cells, hormones and nutrients to fix the problem.

Removing night shades from the diet will decrease inflammation almost immediately. The Whole30, Autoimmune Paleo (AIP), Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and Against All Grain are great cookbook resources to aid in eating healthy to avoid inflammation so that you can give your body and fighting chance to heal!
